BIG FIVE: KING OF BEASTS

...early morning seems to be the best time for 'hunting' lion...

...we came across this very large pride dining on four buffalo after a very successful night hunt...

...the great beast approaches...

...past the vehicle just in front of ours...

...close enough to touch...

...this young one appears to be playing with his food...

 ...another male approaches...

....you can see the shadow of our vehicle as he passes...

...he stops to take a second look at this vehicle with unprotected sides - Francois calls them lion kabobs...

...passenger not that thrilled to be so close...

...while their great brave Maasai warrior guide cowers on the roof...

...a kingly feast...

 ...a photo feast...

BIG FIVE: QUEEN OF BEASTS

...African lion - conservation status:
endangered...

...as we were leaving our tented camp for a second location early in the morning on our 44th day, we passed this ravine...

...how lucky we felt to see a large pride with several cubs walking along the ridge...

...our guide told use that all the female lions within the pride will care for and feed all the cubs...
