...the next and final visit of the day was to the home of Karen Blixen - author of the book 'Out of Africa'...
...the original home, now a museum...
...surrounded by beautiful gardens...
...tulip tree, planted by Karen, now over 100 years old...
...cacti that had to be at least 30 feet tall...
...avocado tree...
..our very patient driver/guide, David, resting under the shade of a small coffee tree...
...view of the Gnong(Swahili for knuckles) Hills...
...poinsettia tree...
...bushes of these bright beauties lined one side of the long driveway...
...back of the house...
...where Karen liked to sit...
...our young museum guide, Charles, describing where the coffee beans were dried...
...we weren't allowed to take photos inside the house which was beautifully furnished with original pieces (including Karen's Louis Vuitton steamer trunk), many pieces donated by Universal Studios (wardrobe of Meryl Streep etc), and pieces on loan from the Karen Blixen Museum in Denmark. Many reproductions of her paintings were on display, the originals housed in Denmark...
...the movie 'Out of Africa' was not filmed inside Karen's home as it was too small for the film crew but another similar location was found...however all scenes of the grounds were filmed on the original site...
