DAY 33: ROAD TO NAKURU

...really excited to begin the road trip for
our first safari...

...up early and packed light (for us)...

...headed out of town on a warm Saturday morning...everything looked very parched as the long awaited rainy season is delayed this year...

...down the long winding road of the escarpment that is part of Kenya`s Great Rift Valley...

....great look off point but too hazy to see the distant mountains clearly - the highest being Mount Longonot
(9000 feet asl)...

...even at the early hour the two lane road was lined with traffic - thankfully we have a very good safe driver...

...church built by Italian prisoners of war during WWII...

...past small towns...bicycles and donkeys are commonly used modes of transportation...
...Mount Longonot with its dormant volcanic crater...

...past Lake Elementatia...

...almost there...can tell I am really excited...

...to the gates of Lake Nakuru Game Park...our driver opened the roof of the van but I had to start shooting right away...Francois was ready to shoot me with a tranqilizer...
